Lake Norman, North Carolina
Lake Norman YMCA is a recreation master plan project focused on expanding outdoor activity, waterfront access, wellness, and community gathering within an existing lakeside campus.
The master plan creates a more connected experience across the site, organizing recreation, circulation, landscape, and community amenities into a cohesive long-term vision.
The proposed program includes a pavilion with overflow patio, relocated playground, restrooms, concessions, equipment storage, amphitheater lawn, changing stalls, bouldering park, challenge course, outdoor functional training, boardwalk deck, pickleball courts, splash pad, activity platforms, hammock village, docks, aqua park, planted buffers, and trail system.
The planning strategy focuses on improving movement through the site while creating meaningful connections between the lake, trails, activity zones, gathering spaces, and outdoor recreation amenities.
The result is a recreation-focused campus vision that supports active lifestyles, family gathering, waterfront activity, and long-term community use.
